Weekend News
Jackson - I went to the Paw Patrol show and it was real life. I got toys from the show. I eat some food at my house.
Adam - I play soccer with my daddy and papa. I watch Team Umizoomi and I play games.
Ekin - I play with my mom and dad and play outside. I rest and read books.
After our beginning routines of Spanish class, Alicia read us the book Airplane which connects to our class study of Airplanes. As Alicia read she identify the names for parts of an airplane (Avión) in Spanish such as Hélice (Propeller), Pilota (o) (Pilot), Motor/Engine, Tren de aterrizaje (Landing gear), Ala (Wing), Timón (Udder) and Cabina (Cockpit). We also learned the words for Aermoza(o) ( Flight Attendants) and Equipaje (Luggage). Alicia then had a conversation with the Cardinals about airplanes. The Cardinals sure know quite a bit about airplanes! Today it was Cooper's turn to squeeze la vaca!
Tuesday
Today in art class we continued our work from last week by adding details to our Mono prints. Amanda told us that we were going to be using a variety of different materials to add ink prints. Friends used black and white paint to design their work.
Back in our classroom, we ate snack had our morning meeting and worked on a journal entry titled, "What do you like to do in the rain?"
Wednesday
Today a few of our Quaker members came to have Meeting for worship with the whole lower school in the meetinghouse. After we settled into silence, Andrea read the book Silence which was about finding the time to really notice the silence around us.
After morning meeting and snack time, we took a Nature Walk around campus. Friends noticed many signs of Springtime. Here are what the Cardinals had to say:
Phoenix - Trees are changing colors and flowers are blooming.
Oz - I smell something good.
Shanga - The grass is getting green.
Angeline - I see white and pink flowers.
Sidney - Thant tree up there is changing colors
Hayden - I see red plants growing out the ground.
Jackson - Well, when the wind blow it moves my hair.
Adam - Those purple flowers over there are signs of Spring.
Lily -I see little baby leaves that are green.
Ekin - I see birds flying all around.
Cooper - I see yellow flowers
Riley - I see flowers that fall off the trees.
James - I notice the sky looks bluer.
Blaise - I see most trees changing colors.
Friends then enjoyed running and playing in the big field.
Thursday
Thank you parents/caregivers for bringing your Cardinal to school early today!! The Cardinals were very excited to take part in the science experience. We all arrived at Lisa's class on time and sat in the big chairs. Lisa welcomed us and told us about the safety rules of the chemistry room. Each Cardinal got a pair of safety goggles to wear and Lisa explained what we were going to do. Lisa had three stations set up and friends were divided into three groups and got a chance to rotate through each station. The first station was working with magnetic Atoms to create molecules. Friends worked individually or with a partner to create big or small molecules. The second station was using Pipettes, baking soda solution and Well plates. Friends add phenolphthalein in the solution and watch as magic happens (the color changed from white to pink). The third station consists of beakers, tubes with green, red or blue water. Friends squeezed the colored water into the graduated Cylinders and watched as the water level raised while looking at the numbers as the water raised.
Lisa then took us outside for a chemical reaction experiment. In which each Cardinal placed a Mentos into a tube. Then Lisa add the Mentos to a pep bottle of coca cola. The Cardinals squealed with delight as the experiment unfold. Lisa did this three times for us. What a fun, hands-on and engaging experience! Thank you, Cooper, for sharing your mom with us! Thank you, Lisa for taking the time to engage and bring joy to our Cardinals!!
Friday
Our Music class was switched from Wednesday to today for this week. We began class by warming up to the song Chicken Nugget by Parri Gripp. Some Friends knew this song and all the friends enjoyed it. After our hello song, Keisha gave out scarves and the Cardinals sang and acted out the popcorn song. Followed by practicing for our upcoming Spring program. The Cardinals a doing a great job!
The Cardinals did not have Friday Fun Board games because of our music class switch and having to eat lunch a little earlier to attend our all school Arbor day program. Some friends were a little disappointed but once we explained why. They seemed okay. Our Cardinals are serious about our Friday fun!
Enjoy your weekend!
