Josh introduced the frisbee to the Cardinals. He told us that playing frisbee is a real sport called Ultimate frisbee. Josh and Lisa then showed the Cardinals how to hold and throw a frisbee. Friends were very excited to start testing them out. Friends then rolled the frisbee and ran after it. We also worked in pairs of twos to try throwing the frisbee to each other. The kind of frisbee friends worked with today was made out of soft sponge! Ask your Cardinal what they liked about playing with the frisbee?
The Cardinals headed off to Music class rehearsal for our Winter program with Keisha. We met the Catbirds class there and together we sang This little light of mine. The Cardinals then practiced their parts for the show, which are the movements and singing of Here is a bunny, Just From the Kitchen and One little Owl songs.
Tuesday
As Alicia went around the circle greeting and asking each Cardinal, "Cómo estás" (How are you feeling today?) in Spanish. Friends answered mostly saying ¡doble bien! which means they were feeling double good! We then went over the calendar and the one-hundred chart all in Spanish before moving on to a swatter game in which friends worked on recognizing items of clothing as Alicia called them out in Spanish. The Cardinals really enjoyed this game and are truly becoming amazing at it. Yay, Cardinals!! We then played a round of the Camina (walk) game where we walked around the classroom and then Alicia said para (stop). Alicia called out an item of clothing in Spanish and the Cardinals had to point to that item on themselves or on a friend. Nice work Cardinals! Today it was Sidney's turn to squeezed la vaca!
Today the Cardinals each worked on a journal entry titled, What did you do over Thanksgiving break?
Wednesday
Today in art class, Amanda told us that we were going to do some sewing. She explained that it's one of the ways artists put two pieces of art together. Amanda then showed the Cardinal a special needle that did not have a sharp end. She continued to show us how to make a stitch with the needle threaded with yarn. Then it was time for the Cardinals to try sewing.
As your Cardinal what they liked about choice time?
At the end of the day, Phoenix's dad (Jerome), mom (Antoinette) and brother (Xavier) came in to celebrate Phoenix's 5th birthday. Jerome brought in his music equipment and was the DJ for our daily end of the day dance party. Phoenix's parents also brought in cupcakes to celebrate. The Cardinals had a great time! Thank you, Phoenix for sharing your birthday and family with us!
Happy 5th Birthday, Phoenix!!
Thursday
Wow, it's December already and today the Cardinals worked on their December self-portraits. Friends are doing a great job of remembering the important details of their features, with a little help of a mirror.
Friday
We ended up spending a longer time outside today. The Cardinal were enjoying the new bus on the playground, playing and running in the crisp Fall air. We did not have our usual amount of time for our Friday Fun Board games and so we played the game Twister and had fun. The teachers were curious to see how this game would unfold but to our surprise, the Cardinals all loved and enjoyed Twister and asked to play again and again! We played this game as a class with four or three friends playing at a time. As friends watched on the side, they observed different techniques, and tested them out or came up with their own when it was their turn to play! We started with each friend choosing a color to stand on, then a teacher called out two colors and friends put one foot on each. Followed by calling another two colors and friends keeping their feet on their colors while finding ways to now place their hands on the colors called. Ask your Cardinal what they thought about Twister and how did the teachers do playing?
Have a wonderful weekend!!
