Alicia was very excited to see the Cardinals and greeted them with much joy!! After our greetings and calendar work in Spanish, Alicia told us about a special event that is happening this coming Friday. She said that this Friday the entire AFS community will celebrate Three Kings Day, if they want too. Alicia told us that most Spanish speaking country celebrate Three Kings Day and in part of the celebration people leave their shoes outside for special gift. The Cardinals were very excited when Alicia said that if the Cardinals wanted to, they too could celebrate. Alicia read us the book called What Star is this. The Cardinals had much to say and made many connections. Today it was Phoenix's turn to squeezed la vaca.
Today in gym with Josh and Lisa, the Cardinals got the choice to chose from four sports such as basketball, sticky hands, fluffy balls and soft frisbees. Josh lower a couple hoops and friends worked on passing, shooting hoops, and doing locomotive movements. Friends also used sticky hands, softballs and freebees to catch, focus and worked on their eye hand coordination skills. Ask your Cardinal which sports they chose and why?
Wednesday
The Cardinals working on their individual first self-portrait and journal entry titled, "What did you do over Winter Break?" for the year new 2023!
Thursday
The Cardinals were very excited to play bingo in Spanish class. Alicia gave out bingo cards and red chips. As Alicia called an item of clothing in Spanish the Cardinals needed to figure out the word and matched it to a picture on their bingo board. WOW... the Cardinals did a fantastic job. The sounds in the Spanish room was of pure joy as the Cardinals played bingo!! Ask your Cardinal to tell you about playing bingo and to name two or three items of clothing in Spanish? Today it was Lily's turn to squeezed la vaca!
In the art room Amanda greeted the Cardinals with, "Happy New year friends". We all sat around the big art table and Amanda explained that today we were going to be exploring with clay and that at the end of class, all the clay will go back into the bin. Amanda then told the Cardinals that next art class, they will each get a big piece of clay to create whatever they wanted. She further explained that this clay project will be done in steps such as creating, decorating, painting and then into the kiln to be fired! Friends then got a piece of clay to practice with. The Cardinals pressed, rolled, made letters, pinched, tapped, pulled and meed their clay. The Cardinals also used forks, sticks and buttons to experiment with the clay. Stay tune for the next steps!! Ask your Cardinal how the clay felt and what they plan to create next class?
Friday
Today was our special all school celebration of Three Kings Day. All lower school students that wanted to, participate in taking off their shoes and placing them outside their classroom door. Friends then carried on with their work inside the classrooms. After 20 minutes students went out and got their shoes. A sweet treat and stickers were left inside. The Cardinals were very excited about their special treats. Each Cardinals has their special treat in their bags to bring home.
Because our AFS celebration of Three Kings Day was early this morning, Keisha came to our classroom for music class. She greeted the Cardinals by saying, "Happy New Cardinals". Friends had much to say about the different kinds of instruments they have at home. Keisha told the Cardinals that one day each Cardinal will get to bring a favorite instrument from home if they parent/loved one say it was okay! And we will have a jam session at school! The Cardinals were very excited about this! We then sang our hello song Jambo. Keisha then began to teach us a new song called Head and Shoulder Baby One Two Three. Friends did a great job with cooperating the movements to this song and singing at the same time. Keisha then read us the book called Over in the Meadow.
Our older lower school students are paired with our younger students by class. The Cardinals were paired with Danielle and Mindy's second grade class. Three Cardinals friends have sibling in this second grade class! We will get together for special occasions such as meeting for worship, community time, projects and some of our Friday Fun Board Games! Today, our second grade buddies came to join us for our Board Game Fun. Our Cardinals and the second grader truly enjoyed their time together!
Enjoy your weekend!!
