The Cardinals took part in different sports activities in gym class today. Friends were very excited to choose a sport to explore in. The choice of sports were working with rings, frisbees, basketballs and sticky balls. Josh again lowered three hoops as many Cardinals love and enjoy playing basketball.
Tuesday
Spanish class was a bit short because our AFS community participated in an all school practice safety drill. In Spanish class the Cardinals had much to say about the Three Kings Day and what was left in their shoes on Friday. Many friends connected Three Kings Day to Christmas. Friends were also happy the "Grinch" did not take their special treat. We did an activity that involved math equations in Spanish and learning the names for math symbols "+" (más) and "=" (son). Alicia gave out unifix cubes and friends chose to either work independently or with a partner. Alicia called out two different numbers in Spanish and friends used their cubes to represent the amount called out. Alicia then invited the Cardinals to solve the equations. For example 3+1 (tres más uno) or 3+3 (tres más tres) and, with a some guidance with the words (but not the sum), the Cardinals responded in Spanish; tres más uno son cuatro (3 + 1 = 4) or tres más tres son seis (3 + 3 = 6). We will continue the work in the coming weeks. Stay turned! Today it was Jackson's turn to squeezed la vaca!
After morning meeting and snack, we worked in two groups to make a new batch of play dough and goop. The Cardinals helped and got messy with both activities. The Cardinals voted between the colors yellow and purple for the play dough. The number of friends that voted for purple were 5 and 9 friends voted for yellow. We decided as a class that yellow had the most votes and so our new batch of play dough is yellow! Purple will be one of the colors we vote on next time. Ask your Cardinal how they helped with the play dough and how the goop felt?
Wednesday
The Cardinals walked over to the meetinghouse and sat in meeting for worship with their second grade buddies. Ask your Cardinals what they think of their buddy?
Today we celebrated Angeline's 5th birthday. Angeline picked a book called You're My Little Baby and her dad Nate read it to us. Angeline also brought in blueberry muffins to share with her friends. Angeline, we all wish you a very happy birthday!! Thanks for sharing your special day with us, Angeline!
Today we worked in small group as friends continued their work on letter recognition, differentiating letter sounds, writing letters, number recognition, counting in correct number order and writing numbers.
At the end of the day each Cardinal received a letter from their second grade buddy. The Cardinals were very excited and happy to receive their letters. We read each Cardinal their letter and next week the Cardinals will give dictation or help to write a letter back to their buddies! Then the letters will come home with the Cardinals!
Thursday
Keisha welcomed us into the music room with independent warm up dancing to Dinosaur Stomp. After a moment of silence, warming up our voices and our hello song Jambo. The Cardinals had fun singing and making movements to This little cow, Head and Shoulder Baby One Two Three, and This Little Light of Mine. Keisha showed the Cardinals the sign language for proud because she was so proud of them, their singing and movements. Keisha has taught us the signs for sit, stand and proud. Ask your Cardinal to show you the signs for stand and sit? Some friends might even remember the sign for proud.
Friday
The whole Lower school took part in a service project today. The Cardinals and their second grade buddies helped to bake cookies which will be decorated on Martin Luther King Day here at school on Monday 1/16/23. These cookies will be given to people in shelters to hopefully bring a smile to their face. Other classes in lower school also worked on making blankets, soup in a jar, making cards, decorating bags and meals on wheels to help those in need!
The Cardinals also enjoyed our Friday Fun Board games with their second grade buddies!
Have a wonderful weekend!!
