Afterwards the Cardinals played a swatter game in which friends identified formas (shapes). As Alicia called them out in Spanish, during the first round and then she invited the Cardinals to call them out for one another during the second round of the game. Today it was Hayden's turn to squeezed la vaca!

The Cardinals working on a portrait of what they might look like at 100 years old.

Wednesday

The well awaited 100th day of school is finally here!! The Cardinals have been counting down to this day on our hundred chart and were very excited to celebrate! We began our day by decorating our classroom, followed by 100th day fun such as making individual 100 day crowns, coloring the number 100 and counting objects by 10s to 100. As a teacher began making pancakes for our special 100 day snack. Friends chose which kind of warm pancakes they wanted, as some were made with chocolate chips. We also had grapes and strawberries. Friends started with 2 pancakes and fruit, however most Cardinals had 3 - 5 pancakes! Yummy!!

Dance party on the 100 day of school. The Cardinals sure have some moves!!

Friends helping with the making of pancake batter!

After our special snack, the Cardinals came up with 10 ways to move our bodies, as we count by 10s to 100 for each movement. Here are the suggestions from the Cardinals: Jumping jacks, Running in place, Bend down and up, Butt kicks, Cat jumps, Squats, Frog jumps, Hop on one foot, Frog jumps, Clap your hands!  Ask your Cardinal what they like most about the 100th Day of School?

This week Cooper is our Hundred Chart helper and today he placed the number 100 in the 10s column to complete our countdown to 100 days of school! Ask your Cardinal what three numbers make up 100?

The Cardinals shared some of their 100 day of school pancakes with our second grade buddies!

Amanda told the Cardinals that today we are going to use paint sticks to decorate picture frames. These frames will be used to frame our drawings that we made a couple of weeks ago.

Thursday

In Spanish class, we celebrated the 100th day of school! Alicia read us two books about the 100th day of school. We learned how to skip count by 10's en Espanol too! Did you know that 100 en Espanol is cien? At the end of class Alicia handed out some fun 100th day of school coloring sheets written en Espanol.

The Cardinals working on a journal entry titled, "What did you like most about the 100 day of school celebration?"

The Cardinals work individually or in groups while exploring building with cups. The cups help to create skills of beginning to look outside the box, while developing skills of learning to use different materials to complete a common task such as building. These kinds of hands-on work gives the Cardinals opportunities to dig deep with endless possibilities. Friends stack cups, figure out how to balance them so they would not fall, problem solve, negotiate, compromise, show patiences, open-mindedness and teamwork!

At the end of the day yesterday, we took all the numbers out of the Hundred Chart because we had already reached 100 and now it's time to continue our counting past 100. This morning during our morning meeting, friends were asked, "What do you notice about our Hundred Chart?" Here is what each Cardinal had to say:

James - 100 is now purple

Phoenix - Now, we're counting up to 2 hundred cause we are done with 100.

Blaise - It's going to 1 hundred and one next.

Jackson - 100 is red now.

Sidney - All the numbers are gone.

Adam - We are going to go fast on the hundred chart now.

Hayden - Instead of counting to 100, we're going to count to 8 hundred.

Oz - I see math by the hundred chart now.

Riley - Now, we have to guess numbers and write them.

Ekin - We are going to start over with 1 hundred and 1.

Angeline - That only one number is there now.

Shanga - We are going to count some more.

Lily - The 100 is purple and last time it was orange.

Keisha was not at school today and so the Cardinals were the teachers in music class. They taught their classroom teachers a few of their favorite songs and movements. Job well done Cardinals!
