Last gym class some friends were asking Josh about choosing their own equipment to work with. This week, Josh put out a few large motor activities for friends to choose from and explore with. Friends choose from frisbees, basketballs, paddle balls and toss and catch equipment. Ask your Cardinals what choice/ choices they made?
Tuesday
After Amanda greeted us at the door, we stood around the big table as Amanda explained why the stools were on the small tables and covered in orange, red, blue and purple cellophane paper. The Cardinals were SO.. excited with many questions and couldn't wait to get started. Friends declared it was Upside Down Day. Amanda explained that sometimes artists collaborate which means working together to paint. She asked the Cardinals to take a minute to think or look out the window for signs of Spring. After some suggestions from the Cardinals such as, "I see flowers, green leaves, white and pink flowers and baby leaves". Amanda said, "Make sure you ask a friend if you could add to their work before doing so. However, if friends say no you need to respect their work and not add to it". The Cardinals did a wonderful job working and having many conversations together. Ask your Cardinals what they like about this art project?
Wednesday
Today instead of going to the meetinghouse for meeting for worship. The entire lower school took part in a celebration of the Earth. We all met in front of the lower school and sang songs. All classes then took part in a campus clean up. The Cardinals paired up with their second grade buddies with gloves on and went out to the Meadow field to look for and pick up trash. We talked about how everyday is earth day and how we all have to do our part to take care of the Earth!
After our morning routine, we met with our second grade buddies again, this time they read books to the Cardinals, played boardgames, built with wooden blocks and had a dance party. The Cardinals then invited their buddies to play on the playground with them!
Thursday
In Spanish class with Alicia, the Cardinals were very high energy on this cloudy, rainy and chilly day. Alicia was flexible and changed her original lesson to more quiet and movement activities. Friends connected different parts of an airplane with the Spanish names. Today it was Oz's turn to squeeze la vaca!
Friday
The Cardinals engaged in a math workshop in which teachers worked with friends in small groups. We worked on number recognition, writing numbers, figuring out the missing number, and figuring out what number comings after, before and between other numbers. For example; what number comes after 8, before 15 and between 20 ( ) 22. These numbers were lower or higher base on each friend! Great work Cardinal!!
Soon it was time for library class with Ashanti. She helped us settle our bodies by having friends take deep and quiet breaths before reading the book Albert by Donna Jo Napoli. The book was about how a big Cardinal bird discovered a man's hand, made a nest and took care of the Cardinal baby birds. Friends then picked a book, checked it out and brought it back to our classroom. Ask your Cardinal why they chose the book they did?
Have a nice weekend!
