Sensory Exploration, Meeting for Worship, Assembly and More...

 Tuesday

The Cardinals were very happy to see and be with their Cardinal friends today after the long weekend. Some friends didn't stop to say bye to their love ones as they were eager to get in the classroom and be with their friends!! We heard many conversations such as we wearing the same shirt or about similar clothing, what they had for snack, two friends talked about seeing each other at the supermarket, remember we play this last time, tell your mom and dad you want to come to my house and the list going on!

Alicia greeted us and we joined her on the rug. After a momento de silencio, the Buenos días song, and the numbers on the calendar. Alicia went over the words for the head and shoulders song:  - cabeza (head), hombro (shoulders), rodillas (knees), dos pies (two feet), nariz (nose), orejas (ears) and ojos (eyes).

We then did a very fun game in which Alicia calls, Canima (Walk) where we walk around the classroom and then she says para (stop). Alicia would then called out a word in the song, in Spanish, and the Cardinals had to point to that part on their body. The Cardinals were amazing!

We ended class by singing our adios (goodbye) song and today it was Oz's turn to squeezed la vaca.

Josh was absent for our gym time but the Cardinal had their own gym fun! Friends had some time to run around the gym, creating and organizing their own games in groups of three or six friends. As a group we played What time is it Mr Wolf? and Sharks and Minos

On our way back from the gym, we saw this display in which we claimed the birds as Cardinal birds!!

This morning was a little chilly but it warmed up nicely and so the Cardinals enjoyed a picnic lunch outside! Ask your Cardinal what they think about eating lunch outside?

Wednesday

The Cardinals have a moment of silence each day before morning meeting and before our appreciation circle at the end of the day to settle our bodies. Today we had meeting for worship in our classroom. On Wednesdays grades 1-4 go over to the meetinghouse for meeting for worship, Kindergarten and EC classes practice sitting in silence in our classrooms. Kindergarten and EC classes will be joining grades
1-4 in November. We are taking this time to guide our friends in understanding and practicing silence as they think their thoughts in their head before sharing them. Today, we practice meeting for worship in our classroom. The Cardinals were able to stay in silence for 5 minutes this morning.  Great work Cardinals!

The Cardinals had fun with sensory exploration of shaving cream and cornstarch with water today. Friends were excited to get started and had much to say about the activities as they explore. Some friends discovered that when they touched the cornstarch mix it was hard to the touch but when they pick it up it became a liquid form.  The shaving cream was also enjoyed with friends spreading it, drawing and writing in it. Ask your Cardinal what they though of these activities?

Thursday

After our greeting and calendar work in Spanish class, we continued with Alicia guiding us in going over our body parts mentioned in the Head-N-Shoulder song as the Cardinals sang it in Spanish;

Cabeza (head), hombro (shoulders), rodillas (knees), dos pies (two feet),

cabeza (head), hombro (shoulders), rodillas (knees), dos pies (two feet)

ojos (eyes), orejas (ears), boca (mouth), and nariz (nose),

cabeza (head), hombro (shoulders), rodillas (knees), dos pies (two feet).

After, the Cardinals played the swatter game, Alicia placed flashcards on the rug and called a body part in Spanish. Using the matamoscas (fly swatters), two friends at a time worked to find that body part by gently tapping the picture to represent the body part called in Spanish. We ended class by singing our goodbye song and today it was Blaise's turn to squeezed la vaca.

Amanda told us that today we are going to work as artists creating big art. She reminded us that last time we created small art. Amanda told us that we will be making collaborative master pieces with the other EC classes. Amanda explained that collaborative meant working together. The Sparrows used paint sticks and the Catbirds used permanent markers to added their parts. Then it was time for the Cardinals to finish this creative collaborative work by using water paint. Friends mixed colors as they test out which two or three colors make what color such as red and white makes pink or blue and yellow and orange makes brown.  Ask your Cardinal what color paints they discovered in art class?

At the end of the day, Phoenix came in to say hello to her friends after a trip to the doctor's. Her friends were very excited to see her and sang her name as they said hello!! Phoenix fractured her toe and will be in a boot for the next few weeks. We will all help Phoenix at school!!

Friday

The Cardinals had a busy start to the day! We had our first lower school assembly for the school year in the auditorium! Followed by music class with Keisha.

We began music class by making movement and singing Dinosaur Stomp it.  We sang our hello song Jambo with Keisha as she played the guitar. Then we fixed our shoes by singing There a Cobbler Down the Street Mending Shoes for little feet. Followed by Keisha showing the sign language sign for standing and the Cardinals did an amazing job at remembering and following direction!! While standing we sang, dance and did the movements to Turn Cinnamon Turn.  Keisha gave each Cardinals two egg shakers and a moment to shake them before following her directions. Friends shake their eggs and followed directions as they sing and washed their hair, ears, shoulder, belly knees and toes as Keisha called them out!
