Today, we celebrate Cooper's and Jackson's 4th birthdays. The Cardinals couldn't believe that it was truly both Jackson and Cooper's birthday on the same day! Jackson brought in cupcakes and Cooper brought in cupcakes to share with their friends! Thank you Cooper and Jackson for sharing your birthday with us! We hope you both enjoyed the rest of your special day after school!  We wish you both the happiest birthday!!  Love your Cardinal friends and teachers!!

                                         Birthday Boys!!!

In Library class with Ashanti, we listen to the book Kick Push, Be Your Epic Self read aloud by Frank Morrison. The book was about a boy who was always comparing himself to others and never feeling like he could do things that other kids did. He soon learned that he too could do the things his friends did. He just needed to believe in himself, be himself and practice. Friends answered questions and made comments as the book was read. Soon it was time for each Cardinal to choose and check out a book to bring back to our classroom. Ask your Cardinal what they like about the book they chose?

Tuesday

The Cardinals began the day by decorating their individual Valentine bags. Soon we were off to Spanish class with Alicia. Many Cardinals greeted Alicia in Spanish as they walked into class and she greeted them back with a smile!! Today we worked on reviewing some basic colors as well as understanding a full sentence in Spanish. Alicia read a book and the Cardinals used the pictures as clues and previous Spanish words learned to help translate the sentence. For example Esta manzana es roja (This apple is red.), Esta banana es amarilla. (This banana is yellow.), Estos arándanos son azules (These blueberries are blue.)Este limón es verde (This lemon is green), and Esta naranja es anaranjada (This orange is orange.). We then did a San Valentín game in which the Cardinals needed to figure out which color was missing. ¿Qué color falta? (What color is missing).  Job well done Cardinals!! Today it was Angeline's turn to squeezed la vaca!

Back in our classroom, the Cardinals enjoyed a special Valentine's day snack provided by their parents! Thank you parents for your generous contribution to our special snack!

Then it was time for friends to head off to gym class with Josh and Lisa. The Cardinals choose from a variety of large motor materials to practice with.

After gym class, the Cardinals took turns putting Valentine's goodies in each friend's decorated Valentine's bag.

One Cardinal started singing Fly Eagles Fly and in seconds the whole class joined in and then they repeated the song as they held their Valentines bags!!!!!

This fantastic Valentine's creation was made and given to the Cardinals by Adam and his family! Thank you, Adam, Meme, Rick and Stephen!!

Wednesday
The Cardinals joined their second grade buddies for meeting for worship in the meetinghouse. Andrea read the book called Sallie Bee, Writes A Thank You Note. The book reminded us all about the importances of saying thank you to people near and far for any and everything. And how these two words lift our spirits up and in turn make us feel appreciated. It was hard for lower schoolers to settle back into silence after the book and that's okay. Everyday or everyone is never the same and at times we just need to let things go. We end meeting for worship with Raji playing the guitar and leading us in singing the song, Peace Like a River. Lower schoolers sent waves of peace, love and joy into the universe for everyone!!

Riley's mom (Bridget) told us about a cool way to create a cockpit. Today the Cardinals took a close look at pictures of cockpits in books and on the computer. Friends had many great ideals as to how we could make a cockpit. We then intertwine Bridget's idea, information for the computer and books and the Cardinals ideas. We came up with a start to begin creating the cockpit for our airplane. The part we worked on today consists of colorful knobs. Stay tuned for next steps!

Thursday
Alicia taught the Cardinals the Spanish words for some basic formas (shapes) such as cuadrado (square), rectángulo (rectagular), óvalo (oval), círculo (circle), triángulo (traingle), rombo (rhombus), and trapecio (trapezoid). Alicia first read a book that not only gave the opportunity to learn the Spanish word for shapes but it also provided the chance for the Cardinals to review some colors. For every page with a shape, Alicia would say the shape word and ask "¿Qué color? (What color?). The Cardinals did an amazing job remembering their colors! After the read aloud, Alicia challenged friends to a swatter game. Friends used the swatter to tap on a shape as Alicia called it out in Spanish. Friends did great and with more practice the Cardinals will master this task. Today it was Adam's turn to squeezed la vaca!

The Cardinals enjoyed having snack time outside on this warm February day.

Amanda showed the Cardinal our clay creations from a couple of weeks ago. She then asked friends if they noticed anything different about the clay? Some of the changes the Cardinals noticed were its color, it's hard, looks different and it's not wet anymore. Amanda also told the Cardinals that now we need to be very careful with our clay creations and do you know why? Friends replied, it could break, you need to be gentle, you have to hold it with two hands and it's fragile. When asked what fragile means friends respond by saying, you have to be super super duper careful, you can't bump into anything, it will break and you have to walk slowly with it! Amanda then told us that today we were going to paint our clay creations. Amanda explained that the paint is called glaze then one friend said, "Yea, like a glaze donut"! Our creations are going back into the klin again. Stay Tuned for next steps.

                                 Have a great weekend!!
