The Cardinals returned their books to the Library, sat on the rug and listened as Ashanti read the book Mrs. Watson Wants Your teeth. The Cardinals made predictions and recalled information from the book as it was being read. Ashanti asked the Cardinals to give two thumbs up or down to show their feelings about the book. Most friends gave two thumbs up! Then it was time to chose and check out a book to bring back to our classroom!

Tuesday

After our morning jobs such as putting away our lunch, snack, water bottle, washing hands and sign in. We had choice time, morning meeting followed by Spanish class.

The Cardinals practice counting in Spanish with Alicia. We talked with Alicia about how we are all the same and different, igual y diferente.  Alicia read us the book I am New Here. The book was about children around the world who are from different countries and spoke different languages. We talked about how we all feel sad, cry, play, eat, wear clothes and have eyes, ears, hair, which celebrates the many ways we are all amazing and that what matters most is to be yourself.  Today it was Ekin's turn to squeeze La Vaca!

In Gym class friends worked with hola hoops and bean bag. The object was to stand in a hola hoop and balanced a bean bag on a body part while saying your name. Then repeat this movement by balancing on another body part. Next the Cardinals stood in a hoop and toss the bean bag up and try to catch it. Next they move to another hoop and repeat this movement. With the music off Josh and Liz explained our next challenge which was to stand a little ways from a hoop and toss the bean bag into the hoop. Then we stood in a hoop and tried to toss the bean bag into another hoop.  Friends also had some time to chose which skill they wanted to explore more. Ask your Cardinal what they like about Gym class today?

How many Cardinals can fit on a couch in the Berman Center (the Gym)?

Wednesday

Friends engaging in cooperative team work as they created a road for cars, explored with magnetic alphabet, build with lego, did creative coloring and drawing.

The Cardinals engaged in 7 minutes of meeting for worship in our classroom today. It was so impressive to watch as the length of silence time has extended over the past 24 days of school! Great work Cardinals!

Blaise's mom Mykola who is a teacher and a yoga instructor came to read to us but first she lead us in mindful breathing. Followed by reading the book I have a Superpower written by Stephen Curry and illustrated by Geneva Bowers. Our Cardinals were so captivated by this book. After the book Mykola asked each Cardinals:What is your Superpower? Here is what the Cardinals had to say:

Blaise - Playing Football, Soccer, and Basketball

Adam - Football, Basketball, Baseball

Cooper - Playing Halloween

Jackson - Football and Soccer

Riley - Golf and running fast

Angeline - Being strong

Ekin - Going really really fast

Hayden - My strength

Phoenix - Being a Chef and Spider woman

Oz - Spiderman and Sports

Shanga - Superman

James - Playing in my house

Lily - Football and Sports

Sidney - Sports

We are hoping to have Mykola came back to do yoga with us!  Thank you, Blaise for sharing your mom with us! Thank you Mykola for reading and spending time with us!

Thursday

Alicia greeted us and after our beginning of Spanish class routine. Alicia read us the book called Mixed by Arree Chung. The book was about the ways colors interact with each other when we color with them, which is a lot like how we as people interact with each other. The book provided the opportunity for the Cardinals to practice more Spanish words for more colors as well as a discussion connected to the ongoing topic of how we are all igual y diferente (same and different). Today it was Hayden's turn to squeezed la vaca!

Amanda was happy to see the Cardinals because school was closed on our last art class day. Today, Amanda told us we were going to make magic in art class. Friends used coffee filter paper and different color markers to create their work. After friends colored their coffee filter paper. Friends used a cup with water and a pipette to drop small amounts of water at a time on to their filter paper. The Cardinals were excited as they watched the magic appeared as they saw the colors blended on their work. Ask your Cardinal to tell you what they drew and how they made magic?

Friday

The Catbirds, Sparrows and Cardinals classes got together and had our own version of field day! Friends did hola hoop challenges, balancing acts, counting balls and then running to the other side and dumping the balls in a bin. Our EC friends did an awesome job participating and cheering each other on! What a fun time we had!!
